Diana Vishneva in Orange County Feb. 13-17
Diana Vishneva, Prima Ballerina of the Kirov Ballet, brings her personal show to Orange County Performing Arts Center, February 13-17, 2008. You can find full information here: Diana Vishneva: Beauty in Motion
Ms. Vishneva was one of the few young dancers brought directly out of training in the Vaganova Academy to star in principal roles. This was in contrast to the long standing tradition of "working up through the ranks." There were rough times at first, but it was rough in the new Russia and this radical approach seemed necessary.
In the end it paid off, with young dancers of the Mariinsky/Kirov developing into the quintissential prima ballerinas of the new century: Uliana Lopatkina, Svetlana Zakharova, and of course, Diana Vishneva.
