Though Kirov casting is never finalized until curtain time, undoubtedly the company's top stars will make the trip, including Altynai Asylmuratova, Svetlana Zakharova, Diana Vishneva, Farukh Ruzimatov and Igor Zelensky.

Resilient company professionals like Elvira Tarassova and Zhanna Ayupova are bound to make brilliant splashes as well. In the youngster ranks, the leaps of Andrian Fadeyev should be watched for.

The New York Met appearance is the big tour of the year for the Kirov. Valery Gergiev scrapped plans for a London season in favor of a year 2000 opera and ballet presence at the grand re-opening of Covent Garden.

For 1999 the London fans will have to be content with the Bolshoi – but since Anastasia Volochkova is now dancing with that company, the island won't entirely miss-out on the young, brilliant and beautiful from St. Petersburg's Vaganova Academy.
